💡 Why Regular Heating Maintenance Matters

🚨 Prevent Costly Winter Breakdowns

Heating systems work hardest during San Antonio's coldest months. A tune-up identifies and fixes small issues before they become expensive emergency repairs. Our technicians catch problems early—saving you from midnight service calls when temperatures drop.

💰 Lower Your Energy Bills

A well-maintained heating system uses 15-30% less energy than a neglected one. Clean components, proper airflow, and calibrated controls mean your furnace or heat pump runs efficiently, reducing monthly utility costs throughout winter.

🌿 Improve Indoor Air Quality

Dirty heating systems circulate dust, allergens, and contaminants throughout your home. Our tune-up includes filter inspection, ductwork assessment, and indoor air quality recommendations to keep your family breathing clean air.

📋 Maintain Manufacturer Warranties

Many HVAC manufacturers require annual maintenance to keep warranties valid. Our documented tune-up report provides proof of professional service.

⏰ Extend Your System's Lifespan

Regular maintenance can add 5-10 years to your heating system's life. Our tune-up reduces wear and tear on critical components like motors, bearings, and heat exchangers—protecting your investment.

✅ Ensure Safe Operation

Gas furnaces require annual safety inspections. Our technicians test for carbon monoxide leaks, verify proper combustion, inspect heat exchangers, and ensure all safety controls function correctly.

🚩 Signs Your Heating System Needs a
Tune-Up

Schedule a heating tune-up if you notice:

  • ❄️ Uneven heating or cold spots in your home

  • 📈 Higher than normal energy bills

  • 🔊 Strange noises (banging, rattling, squealing)

  • 🔄 Frequent cycling on and off

  • 🟡 Yellow pilot light flame (should be blue)

  • 🌫️ Dusty air or musty odors when heating runs

  • ⏳ System is more than 1 year since last tune-up

  • 💨 Reduced airflow from vents

🔄 Heating Tune-Up vs.
Heating Repair:
What's the Difference?

🔧 Heating Tune-Up
(Preventive Maintenance)

  • Scheduled service before problems occur

  • Comprehensive inspection of all components

  • Cleaning, testing, and minor adjustments

  • Identifies potential issues early

  • Fixed price: $89 (or FREE for Comfort Club members)

🚑 Heating Repair

  • Addresses specific problems or breakdowns

  • Diagnostic fee: $89 (waived if repair is completed)

  • Repair costs vary based on parts and labor

  • Often more expensive than preventive maintenance

  • Can be avoided with regular tune-ups

📅 How Often Should You Schedule Heating Maintenance?

In San Antonio, you should schedule professional heating maintenance once per year, ideally during early fall (September–October) before temperatures drop and your system has to work harder.

Even though San Antonio has a milder winter, your furnace or heat pump still collects dust, loses efficiency, and can develop safety issues if it goes unmaintained. A yearly tune-up keeps your system running safely, reduces breakdowns, and helps lower your winter energy costs.

Temperature Rules: When is it safe to run your heater?

🔥 Heat Pumps

Do NOT switch a heat pump into Heat Mode when outdoor temps are above ~65–70°F.  Running heat mode in warm weather forces the system to operate against the thermal load, which can:

  • damage the reversing valve

  • cause the system to overheat

  • force the compressor into unsafe operating pressures

Safe rule:
✔️ Only run Heat Mode when outdoor temperatures are below 65°F.
✔️ If you need heat when it’s warmer (rare), leave the thermostat Off and call an HVAC pro.

🔥 Furnaces (gas or electric)

Furnaces can technically run in any outdoor temperature, but they should not be used for "testing" or extended heat cycles above ~70°F outside.
This can:

  • stress the heat exchanger

  • cause unnecessary short cycling

  • raise indoor humidity due to rapid temperature swings

Safe rule:

✔️ Don’t test or run your furnace for long periods when the outdoor temperature is above 70°F.
